Of the single-family homes finished in the United States in 2024, 65% came with a two-car garage and another 15% with three bays or more — four out of five new houses. Only 9% were built with no garage or carport at all. Meanwhile 59% of U.S. households keep two or more vehicles, and 22% keep three or more. Two-car garages led every census division, from 54% of completions in the East North Central to 72% in the West South Central, the division that contains Texas. Three-bay garages are a Plains and Mountain habit: 33% in the West North Central against 4% in New England.
A two-car garage holds about 400 square feet. Two cars do not fill it, and American households do not treat it as parking — it absorbs tools, bikes, sports gear, seasonal stock, a second fridge, a workbench. For a wholesaler that reads as a standing demand for storage hardware: shelving units, wall track and hook systems, overhead racks, bins, workbenches, floor coating, lighting and the electrical fittings around them. The demand is largest where the bays are largest — the Plains, the Mountain West and Texas — which is also where new completions are running hardest.
